Ensure Quality Results: How To Care For Your Sandblast Room

by Patricia Brooks

If you have a sandblast room, you need to keep it well-maintained. A well-maintained sandblast room will give you the results you need for your industrial projects. With the right care, your sandblast room will provide quality results for every project. Unfortunately, many business owners don't know how to give their sandblast rooms the maintenance they need. If you fall into that category, read the list below. Here are four tips to help you care for your sandblast room.

Maintain Safety Equipment

When it comes to maintaining your sandblast room, the first thing you need to do is protect the safety equipment. First, make sure that all personal protective gear is clean and in good repair. That includes safety goggles, gloves, and respiratory gear. Second, inspect the ventilation system. This will ensure that there's adequate airflow into the sandblast room.

Replenish Abrasive Media

If you want to avoid issues with your sandblast room, pay attention to the abrasive media. Proper abrasive management ensures quality results for your projects. One way to protect your abrasive media is to conduct daily inspections. You want to look for signs of contamination. Moisture, oil, and foreign materials can contaminate your abrasive material. If you find any of those contaminants in your abrasive material, remove them right away, Then, replenish the levels with fresh abrasive media. It's also a good idea to provide proper storage for your abrasive media. Abrasive media should get stored in a clean, dry location.

Inspect for Wear and Tear

If you're worried about your sandblast room, now's the time to get started on an inspection routine. Your sandblast room should get inspected at least once a month. These inspections will help you identify damage caused by wear and tear. This is especially important if you use your sandblast room every day. During the monthly inspection, you want to check the nozzles, couplings, and hoses. You also need to inspect the blast media recovery system. That includes the bucket elevators and abrasive separators. Any damage should get repaired right away.

Clean and Remove Dust

When it comes to extending the life of your sandblast room, you can't afford to cut corners on the cleaning routine. When you clean your sandblast room, you want to remove all the dust residue. Removing the dust residue helps avoid contamination. You also want to clean and inspect the dust collection system. That way, you can avoid clogs in the ventilation system.
